New for 2013! The new twice-weekly program begins in April and ends with a festival, the MAYSA Kindergarten Jamboree at Reddan Soccer Park, in June. The program will have 2 east-side locations:
| Practice Day | Game Day | |
| Olbrich Park | Sunday 5:30 – 6:25pm | Saturday 9:00 – 9:45am |
| Elvehjem School | Thursday 5:30 – 6:25pm | Saturday 9:00 – 9:45am |
1x week Practice Day: 5:30 to 6:25, Sunday or Thursday. In consultation with WYSA soccer coaches, CESC will emphasize ‘play’ time with a soccer ball during fun, weekly practices. Skill in soccer is developed by many chances to touch the ball in different conditions, increasing confidence, releasing creativity, and keeping players active and engaged! These practices will be all about ‘playing’. (If you miss a practice in one location you are welcome to join on a different day at another location.)
1x week Game Day: On Saturday mornings from 9 to 9:45, several small sided games (3v3) will be played at the same site practices are held. ‘Teams’ are flexible and games are organized by parent coaches with help from a lead coach.
No scores are kept and teams will change up each Saturday, or even during play. Goalkeepers are not used, and there are lots of chances for both teams to ‘score’.
Good sporting behavior and comfort handling the ball are the most important ‘skills’ each player should develop from this program.
The goal is always FUN!
Who leads the practices and games?
The Lead Coach at each location will be an experienced trainer from Challenger Sports who will teach kids about soccer with fun and skill building activities, helping parents learn the game and coaching at this level as well. On Saturday ‘game’ days, parent-coaches organize games with some guidance from the lead coach.
Parent-Coaches will also play an important role. In addition to support from the Lead Coach, MAYSA provides a free WYSA coach clinic for all who volunteer their time. At this clinic you will learn ideas for teaching very young players the game. The April 16th Breakaway Coach Clinic is the Y1 coach clinic to choose, sign up today! Please consider volunteering your time – Remember that at this age, it’s mostly about letting them play.
How much does it cost and what’s included? $55 will cover a t-shirt, ball, plus flags/cones/and ball bag for the play days. (It does NOT include shinguards, which are required.)
How can I get more information? After you register, you will hear from your club (Capital East) after April 1. (If you don’t, or you have questions now, you can contact Capital East SC, Ted Blazel, Kinde coordinator (ted.blazel@gmail.com). Updates will be posted to this webpage.
