Alex West grew up kicking a soccer ball around the east side of Madison, where he was a member of the Capital East Soccer Club and East High School soccer team. Those who knew him understood that he was an aggressive and fierce defender who wore the number 15, a leader on the pitch, and was rarely seen without a bandana holding his red-headed hair away from his face.
Although he loved winning, he loved playing with his boys even more. Sadly, Alex passed away on February 2, 2022, at the age of 15. He was a prolific writer, and his journals often spoke of the importance of getting off the couch and away from screens to enjoy life with those who are important to you. Cap East proudly hosts the Alex West 5-a-Side Tournament in his name with the knowledge that if we can give just one more kid a chance to kick a ball around in the sun with his or her crew, AW would be smiling.
